White Pelicans – A big gulp
I stopped by Ollies Pond for about an hour on the 21st. Like most small bodies of water here in SW Florida the drought had diminished the size and made it easier for fishing birds to get to their dinner. … Continue reading

Benefits of the drought
It’s not often you can find a benefit in something like a drought. For nature photographers it does have some benefit. As ponds dry up they get smaller and the critters preyed on by our wading birds get concentrated in … Continue reading

A Couple More Sunsets with Boats and Pelicans
Saturday evening, I looked out the window and saw a really fiery sunset. I made my way to Ponce Park to find that everyone else had gone to watch it too and finding a quiet space without a lot of … Continue reading

From the Rookery
On my way to the Chalk Festival in Venice, I stopped off at the Venice Rookery just to see what activity there was. One pair of Great Blue Herons was nest building but there wasn’t much other activity. Things will … Continue reading

Pair A Lelicans

A couple of birds from an English Farm
We are on our annual trip to the UK and after a couple of days in London we moved on to our first stay on a farm in Buckinghamshire. It’s a couple of miles out of town to provide some … Continue reading
A Better Day at the Rookery
My camera club had a followup visit to the Venice Rookery last Tuesday. It was a much, much better morning for shooting with plenty of activity on the island and the surrounding area. The hard part wasn’t what to shoot … Continue reading

A Foggy Morning at the Venice Rookery
My camera club had a field trip to the Venice Rookery this morning. It was set up primarily to have a learning session for the many folks using the Canon Powershot SX40, 50 and 60 bridge cameras. I’ve seen some … Continue reading

Catch and Release – Great Blue Heron Style
I went out for an afternoon walk yesterday. I took my Nikon V2 and 70-300mm CX along just-in-case because hot afternoons are usually slow times for nature shooting. But, I was wrong. When I crossed the last bridge towards Ponce … Continue reading
